My name is Gabriel Rošák, I am 26 years old and I come from Michalovce. Everyone has their own life story, and I am no exception. Stories are varied, some worse, others better, and some even have a happy ending, especially when a person is willing to fight and doesn't want to give up on their desired goal.
But sometimes it happens that even though we put all our physical and mental strength into achieving this goal, we don't always succeed without the help of others. That's why I'm turning to various organizations and foundations, because I'm not giving up and I want to achieve my goal: „to get back on your feet“.
It hasn't even been a year since the event that changed my entire life 180 degrees. Believe me, if someone had told me a year ago that my life could change from one second to the next, I wouldn't have believed it. On June 2, 2018, it only took me a few seconds to change from a young, healthy, and independent man who was involved in sports, hiking, and work, to a man who is confined to a wheelchair and dependent on the help of others. But even so, I am grateful that I survived. Not everyone gets a second chance at life, and this unfortunate car accident will be a memory and a warning for the future. When a person loses their health, which they often take for granted while they have it, only then do they fully understand the meaning of the familiar saying that states: „A healthy person has a million wishes, a sick person only one – to be healthy.“. Only then does a person realize how precious their life and health are, learn to enjoy the little things again, and be grateful for each day.
After a car accident, I was hospitalized for 9 weeks at L. Pasteur University Hospital in Košice, where I underwent spinal surgery due to multiple fractures in my chest area. My diagnosis was: spinal cord injury and paraplegia. I spent another 9 weeks at the National Rehabilitation Center in Kováčová.
In April of this year, I underwent a rehabilitation stay at ADELI Medical Centre. After 2 weeks of intensive rehabilitation, I felt a change. Although it may have been minor given my health condition, some progress was made. I am very grateful for this stay and it has filled me with positive energy.
I am primarily requesting financial assistance because I cannot create suitable conditions at home for rehabilitation treatments like those offered at ADELI or other specialized facilities, even though I exercise with a physical therapist almost every day. My financial situation is currently very unfavorable, as I live alone with my grandmother and am still unable to work. I am covering my treatment costs from my own resources, which is insufficient to cover all expenses. Therefore, I would like to ask for any financial contribution towards my ongoing treatment.
Thank you to everyone who was moved by my story.
