Hanka is a smiling, kind, caring, and sometimes maybe a little cheeky girl, just like other teenagers. On April 24, 2021, something happened that none of us expected. Our Hanka, at the moment she was laughing, fell unconscious. Her heart stopped at that moment, and she almost lost her life.
Rescuers and her brother fought for her life for 22 minutes. They finally succeeded. Hanka was transported unconscious to the hospital in Michalovce, where she was put into an artificial coma and later that evening transferred to the hospital in Košice. Her heart stopped multiple times, and she had to be resuscitated, but Hanka fought bravely and endured. On Monday morning, April 26, 2021, she was successfully transported by air to a hospital specializing in heart and vascular diseases in Bratislava. There, they discovered that the cause of the cardiac arrest was ventricular tachycardia. Hanka is still undergoing various examinations in Bratislava as they try to determine the cause of her heart failure. She had brain swelling and fluid around her heart, but the swelling gradually subsided. However, she started to have a lot of mucus and developed an infection, which doctors are treating. A high fever also appeared, which they managed to reduce after a few days.
Hanka is still in a coma and bravely fighting for her life. She underwent a heart biopsy, so in a few weeks, we might know more about what's causing her current condition. Every day, however, Hanka shows us that she can fight and doesn't give up, so neither should we – her family, friends, and everyone who knows her. Her sister recently celebrated her 18th birthday. It wasn't the kind of celebration we imagined. We had planned to celebrate this special day with our Hanka, in the circle of family, and to enjoy our time together. But as they say – man proposes, God disposes.
Thank you to everyone who remembered Hanka on her birthday. She would surely be happy with all the wishes, voice messages, and good energy you are sending her. Our thanks go to all the doctors and nurses who are taking care of Hanka and watching over her. We also send our heartfelt thanks to all the mothers who prepared a beautiful birthday gift for Hanka, even though their own children are also fighting for their lives in the hospital.
Hanka will need rehabilitation, which will be financially demanding. Therefore, we have decided to hold a fundraiser to help our daughter, sister, and friend cover at least some of the care costs, so that we can return her to a normal life as much as possible.
Thank you all sincerely from the bottom of our hearts! ❤️
