Janko is full of life, zest, and after his first stay at ADELI Medical Center, he's also extremely motivated.
As one of the first clients, I underwent intensive ADELI CYBERTHERAPY. The program uses an exoskeleton, a robotic system, which can read bioelectrical signals from muscles even before visible movement occurs and then support patients with their movement accordingly.
The device indeed confirmed that it had detected weak but present signals in Janko's legs. Janko's wife Silvia remembers the moment precisely: „When we realized that not all paths to improvement were lost, that was a big turning point, even psychologically for both of us!“ Janko says that his joy and optimism for the rest of his life, which cybertherapy has given him, will be understood especially by those who are like him. „Those whose legs are replaced by the wheels of a wheelchair.“
She and her Sisa loved each other like horses, lived their pleasant lives, enjoyed each other's company, and even though they never had extra money, they knew how to afford day-long wellness stays within their means. They are both good people at heart, have been married for 27 years, and can still talk and laugh together. They love weekend breakfasts, which they've turned into a multi-hour ritual – where, besides food, a pleasant atmosphere reigns at the table – „we chat, joke, discuss everything possible and impossible,“ smiles Janko, a golden blood donor. „It was exactly 56 times, unfortunately, this is also over due to an injury. I'm sorry about that, the feeling when you get a text message saying your blood helped save a life is priceless.“
Everything changed in September 2024. Janči was helping a neighbor from the village with his roof. He was already heading home when he noticed that a piece of sheet metal needed to be cut „there in the corner.“ He had a new miter saw, so he used it. „But only once, I don't know what happened, I simply fell from a 6-meter height onto concrete stairs and that was it...“
Around four in the afternoon, when she was going home from work jeho Siska, they waved to each other, and he shouted to her from the roof that he'd be home soon. He didn't come. Minutes later, a crowd of neighbors stood in front of the neighboring house. Silvia, still laughing, asked them, „And what are you doing here, like swallows on a fence?“ until she noticed Janko lying on the stairs. He was fully conscious. He calmly told his wife, „I can't feel my legs.“
Events took a rapid turn. Examinations and surgery confirmed a spinal cord injury of a severity that highly likely predicts permanent paralysis. „My life changed completely, everything at home became a barrier, I felt like a burden, I'm 52 years old and I was starting from scratch. Crazy. But I have a great wife and that's the most important thing. We're fighting together, even though she's not healthy either. We hold onto the hope that there are some signals in my legs, that my condition may not be permanent.“
Professional rehabilitation is the only chance to improve the quality of life for a man who is still in his prime.
