Lenka studied high mountain biology at the University of Žilina. She enjoyed spending time in nature, especially in the mountains. She was involved in hiking, mountaineering, and ski mountaineering. She participated in mountain running races (skyrunning). She was very successful in this discipline. In 2023, she won two medals at the Junior World Championships in Andorra.
In the summer of 2024, she was in the Romanian mountains with a group of students as part of a primeval forest monitoring project. Even during this stay, she continued her running training. One morning, she went for a run and fell down a steep 50-meter slope. (She doesn't remember the details.) In the difficult-to-access terrain, it took her colleagues several hours to find her and call for rescue services. A helicopter took her to the hospital in Sibiu. She suffered very serious injuries, including several fractures and brain damage, which caused her to fall into a coma.
After three days, she was airlifted to Košice to the Trauma Surgery Clinic of UNLP. She awoke from her coma after 33 days, on September 12th. She was disoriented, unable to move, but could speak. She spent another week in the hospital, and after being discharged, her parents have been taking care of her. Thanks to intensive rehabilitation, her condition is slowly improving. She has undergone two rehabilitation stays at Adeli and others at different facilities.
Her memory and mental abilities returned relatively quickly; however, significant mobility limitations remain. She has good control of her right arm, can feed herself, wash, use a computer and mobile phone, and play table tennis. She can sit without difficulty, can stand with support, and is attempting her first steps. On the motomed She can manage even 20 km a day. However, she is still confined to a wheelchair and requires practically constant care.
Her days are primarily filled with rehabilitation exercises. She has the spirit of a fighter and doesn't give up hope of returning to an active life. She finds joy in being surrounded by her family. She enjoys spending time outdoors and going for walks, but only where she can access with a wheelchair. This academic year, she wants to finish her master's thesis and successfully complete her university studies. The most important, however, are intensive rehabilitation for her so that as much as possible returned to active life.
