He looked forward to retirement, to enjoy it while he still could. He doesn't have to leave anymore. From home to work shifts. There will be plenty of time. Once, in his youth, he dedicated himself to soccer, reaching the 2nd league – he played for Topoľčany. Soccer remained his lifelong passion, and even in his senior years, he would still play a bit with the guys on the local field. A healthy man in excellent condition. Milan – 64 years old.
It's the end of October 2024. Milan, as always, got on his bike after training and headed home. But then he fell off his bike, and the trouble began. A fracture. hip joint. „Nothing pleasant, but no one expected it to be so fatal,“ explains Milan's son, Milan Junior. Due to his father's poor health, the operation was postponed for several weeks. After the surgery, just when everyone thought the worst was over, problems began to pile up. Literally, one after another. „He got a bacterial infection in his leg, developed sepsis, was in the ICU twice in critical condition, and was in a coma for over a month. We didn't understand anything. The hospital even called us to prepare for the worst.“ Milan's entire body was collapsing; the focus wasn't on when or how he would walk again, but on fighting for his life. His kidneys failed the most, and Milan is still dependent on dialysis today. „But he's alive, he fought, and we're starting over,“ says his son Milan determinedly, who took a break from work to accompany his father to a rehabilitation stay at ADELI.
The male duo works great, son handles all care from hygiene, toileting, dressing, feeding, to communication. They chat freely about everything. However, the son didn't like his father's behavior, after many months in the hospital he became more and more sleepy. „He could He slept three-quarters of the day, talked nonsense, and after consulting with doctors here at ADELI, we got to the root of the problem. Dad was on medication, let's call them “dop-dop pills," which we gradually stopped, and I'm incredibly happy that Dad is back. That's why I'm literally savoring our little chats.“
Complications after the fracture exhausted Milan's body. He lost almost thirty kilograms, he can barely lift his legs or arms, everything is slow, but his eyes and mouth are already smiling. What is he looking forward to the most? A good, hearty meal and a nice cold beer. „A clear sign that everything is improving,“ his caring son chuckles slyly. The tracheostomy has already been removed, he has transitioned to a normal diet without problems, although, of course, he is starting with small portions. „It'll be fine,“ Milan Sr. concludes.
Both rate the ADELI therapies excellently. Their hands are noticeably more dextrous, they sit much more stably in the wheelchair now, and both are convinced they must return to ADELI soon.
Milan: „My father has dialysis twice a week. It was and still is amazing that Adeli accepted us for rehabilitation and also provided dialysis. Incredible. Dad is the first dialysis patient at Adeli. When you simply want to, everything can be coordinated and arranged so that necessary rehabilitation is not neglected either. Adeli, bravo!“
