The Slovak Folk Art Collective (SĽUK), in cooperation with the ADELI Foundation, proudly presents a new joint project aimed at breaking down barriers and connecting people through the art of dance. The inclusive dance performance, titled „Dance, Dance, Don't Sit in the Corner,“ is preparing for its premiere on October 29, 2024, at the House of Arts in Piešťany. This unique project, which will feature the collaboration of professional dancers from SĽUK and individuals with mobility impairments from ADELI Medical Centre, is an exceptional initiative in the field of integration and inclusion in Slovakia.

No Barriers, Only the Rhythm of the Dancers

The project involves ten talented participants with various mobility impairments, aged 4 to 41. Thanks to their determination and the support of SĽUK experts, a work will be created on stage that reflects a unique connection between folklore and the desire to overcome one's own limitations. The joint music and dance performance is titled „Dance, Dance, Don't Sit in the Corner“ and aims to show that dance can unite people regardless of their health status or predispositions. Dance is about the joy of movement and the opportunity to showcase what is within each of us! It expresses the effort to overcome barriers and connect people through a shared passion for dance.

The ‚Dance, Dance, Don't Sit in the Corner‘ project shows that regardless of our physical abilities, everyone has the right and the ability to dance and be part of this wonderful expression. We are here to break down barriers and create a world where inclusion and love for dance are an integral part of our lives.“ said project author Radka Šulovská.

Documentarian Jaroslav Vojtek captures the creation of an inclusive performance

Throughout the entire process of rehearsals, the visual photoshoot, and the premiere of the performance itself, a unique documentary film will be created, capturing this exceptional journey. Behind the camera will be the renowned Slovak documentarian and director Jaroslav Vojtek, who, with his sensitive approach and experience, will bring an authentic perspective on the connection between professional dancers and individuals with mobility impairments. This film will offer viewers not only a look behind the scenes of the performance's creation but also inspiring stories of individuals who, despite their physical limitations, have found strength and joy in dance.

About the project

The project „Dance, Dance, Don't Sit in the Corner“ is an initiative aimed at supporting the integration of people with disabilities through collaborative dance and art. Under the supervision of Radka Šulovská, with artistic collaboration from experts from SĽUK, and with the support of the ADELI Foundation, the project has developed into a full-fledged dance performance. The project also includes the production of a documentary film that captures the entire creative process, from the initial rehearsals to the premiere.
