The stroke came suddenly. The fateful day was like something out of a movie; Maria was essentially saving her own life. In her panic and fear, she was taking all the right steps. Coincidentally, during a phone call with her general practitioner, her mouth started to go numb and her speech rapidly worsened. She couldn't even make a fist with her right hand. She collapsed to the floor. Intuitively, she managed to crawl to the front door to disconnect the chain. She also managed to call her daughter, who then alerted emergency services. Maria was lucky in her misfortune; her mental health remained intact. However, waking up in the hospital was all the more difficult. She immediately knew she had to forget about her beloved garden because her entire left side is paralyzed. A wheelchair has become a new fixture, and assistance from another person is now essential.

Despite her age, however, she has a huge desire to work on herself. She doesn't give up because she is convinced that even in mature old age, you must not give in. She knows that the mind is half the cure. „You have to want it and have patience,“ says the wonderful lady who arrived at ADELI Medical Center by ambulance and lying down for her first stay. However, she left for home in a wheelchair, which extremely motivated her. „A small miracle has already happened, now I just need to train my arm and leg so I can move myself from the wheelchair to the chair. I probably won't be digging in the garden anymore, but I will be relaxing. I believe that with the help of good people, I will soon return to ADELI, because exercising in the first year after a stroke is the most important thing. Thank you for every euro donated.“
